How to Follow the Audit Trail in Docnote

Learn how to use the Timeline tab in Docnote to track every action taken on a request — from creation to payment and document delivery.

Every request in Docnote has a built-in audit trail called the Timeline. This provides a complete, timestamped record of every action taken on a request — giving your office full visibility and accountability at every stage.

How to access the Timeline:

  1. Open any request from your Docnote dashboard.
  2. At the top of the request, select the Timeline tab — located beside the Overview and Payment Info tabs.

What the Timeline tracks:

The Timeline records every key action on a request in chronological order, including:

  • Request creation — who created the request and what type it was (e.g. Quick Form, Standard Request, 3rd Party Request)
  • File uploads — who uploaded a file and the name of the file
  • Invoice creation — when an invoice was created for the request
  • Document delivery — when a final document was sent, to whom, and by what method (e.g. automatically sent to patient, sent to 3rd party by fax)
  • Payment — when payment was made on Stripe and by whom (e.g. patient or office)
  • Status changes — when the request was marked as submitted or completed and by whom

💡 Tip: The most recent action is highlighted at the top of the Timeline with a filled blue dot, making it easy to see the current state of the request at a glance.

💡 Good to know: The Timeline is read-only and cannot be edited — providing a reliable and transparent record of all activity on every request.
